Bharti Airtel, India’s second-largest telecom operator after Reliance Jio, has announced a 10%-21% hike in mobile tariffs. Sunil Bharti Mittal’s telecom company said it will revise mobile tariffs from July 3, 2024.

Now the cheapest plan of Rs 179 will be available for Rs 199. It offers 28 days validity, unlimited calling and 2 GB data. The plan of Rs 265 will be available for Rs 299. It offers 28 days validity with unlimited calling and 2 GB data daily.

ARPU above ₹300 is necessary for a strong business model
Airtel said that it believes that the average revenue per user, i.e., ARPU, should be above ₹ 300 to enable a financially strong business model for telcos in India. We are increasing the entry level plan by 70 paise per day.

Airtel shares fell after hitting a record high
After the increase in Airtel’s recharge plan, its stock reached a record high today. During trading, the stock touched the level of Rs 1,536. However, later it came down and closed at Rs 1,449 with a decline of 1.82%. This year the stock has risen by 43%.

Profit declined by 10.52% in FY24
Airtel’s consolidated profit for the full financial year 2024 declined by 10.52% to ₹ 7,467 crore. The profit in FY 2023 was ₹ 8,345 crore.

The company’s revenue grew by 8% in FY 2024
The company’s revenue from operations increased to ₹ 1.50 lakh crore in FY 2024. The revenue was ₹ 1.39 lakh crore in FY 2023. That is, there has been an increase of 8% in revenue.

Reliance Jio had increased the prices a day earlier
A day earlier, Reliance Jio had announced to increase the prices of its prepaid and postpaid plans by 15% to 25%. The new tariff plans will be implemented from July 3. Now the plan of Rs 239 will be available for Rs 299. The cheapest plan was of Rs 155, which will be available for Rs 189.

Data add-on of Rs 15 is now Rs 19
Along with increasing the tariff of monthly and long term recharge plans, the company has also increased the prices of data add-on plans i.e. plans in which you get extra data after the data limit is exhausted during the plan. Earlier, 1GB data add-on used to cost 15 rupees, now you will have to pay 19 rupees for it.
