New Delhi. The sub-compact, compact and mid-size vehicle segments in India have grown rapidly in the last decade. Most major car makers now offer their best products under these categories with different body styles, various engines, transmission options and a variety of features. However, if you are planning to buy a powerful sedan or SUV under Rs 25 lakh, then here we are going to tell you about the top 5 cars.

Mahindra Scorpio-N
The Scorpio-N is priced between Rs 13.85 lakh (ex-showroom) and Rs 24.54 lakh (ex-showroom). This SUV was launched in June 2022. Mahindra Scorpio-N is available in petrol and diesel engine options. Its diesel unit comes with two different states of tune. The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine generates 203PS and 370Nm with MT or 380Nm with AT.

At the same time, the 2.2-liter, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine generates 132PS and 300Nm. While the other version generates 175PS and 370Nm with MT or 400Nm with AT. Both motors are mated to a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission. Apart from this, the powerful diesel engine is also available with the option of four-wheel-drive (4WD) drivetrain.

Toyota Innova Hybrid
The new generation Innova Hycross is available with two petrol engine options, including a strong-hybrid powertrain. First, the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol (non-hybrid) engine produces 174PS and 205Nm of torque. This motor comes mated to a CVT automatic transmission. On the other hand, the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine is paired with an electric motor and a small battery pack. This engine produces 152PS/187Nm, while the motor generates 113PS/206Nm. Their combined total output is 186PS.

Unlike the petrol-only version, this strong hybrid system is mated to an e-CVT automatic transmission. The price of Toyota Innova Hycross starts from Rs 19.77 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 30.98 lakh (ex-showroom). The special thing is that the petrol-only version is priced at Rs 21.13 lakh (ex-showroom).

MG Hector
The Hector facelift launched at the 2023 Auto Expo has two engine options. One is a 2.0-litre, inline four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that generates 170PS and 350Nm and the other is a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol motor that generates 143PS and 250Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic transmission. The price of the SUV starts at Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 22.15 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hyundai Verna
The new generation Verna has many powertrain options like the Creta. However, the specialty of this sedan is its new 1.5-litre, inline four-cylinder, turbocharged T-GDi petrol engine that produces 160PS and 253Nm of torque. Apart from this, there is also a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor that produces 115PS and 144Nm of torque.

Transmission options include a 6-speed manual, a CVT automatic and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The sedan is priced between Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom) and Rs 17.42 lakh (ex-showroom).

Volkswagen Virtus
The Volkswagen Virtus is priced between Rs 11.56 lakh (ex-showroom) and Rs 19.41 lakh (ex-showroom). It is powered by Volkswagen’s 1.5-litre, inline four-cylinder, turbocharged TSI Evo petrol engine that generates 150PS and 250Nm. This unit also features cylinder deactivation technology. It is mated to a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

There is also a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 115PS and 148Nm of torque. This motor is mated to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
