New Delhi. Air conditioners are used both in summer and rainy season before the winter season arrives. AC helps to get relief from the scorching heat in summer. On the other hand, AC is useful to get relief from humidity in rainy season. But, even people who have been using it for years are often confused about this thing. Why a lot of water comes out from the drain hose of the AC in the rainy season. But, this does not happen in summer days. Let’s know why this happens.

Actually, water dripping from the air conditioner during rain and extreme heat depends on the humidity level and the operating conditions of the AC unit.

Humidity Levels:

During rains, the humidity level in the atmosphere is generally high. When the air conditioner cools the warm, humid air, it condenses the moisture into water droplets. This condensed water then drips from the AC unit.

On the other hand, during hot summers, especially in dry conditions with low humidity, there is less moisture in the air. As a result, not much condensate collects in the AC unit and hence, you don’t see water dripping from it.

Operating conditions of AC:

Air conditioners work by cooling the air and removing moisture. When the AC is running in high humidity (like during rain), it draws more moisture from the air, causing more condensate to collect.

Whereas, in very hot and dry conditions, the AC still cools the air, but there isn’t enough moisture in it to cause noticeable water to come out.

Design & Installation:

The way the air conditioner is installed and the drainage system used also make a difference in whether the unit leaks water or not. Proper installation ensures that condensate is drained effectively from the AC unit no matter what the weather is like outside.

Overall, air conditioners drip during rains because the humidity level is high, which increases the formation of condensate. On the other hand, during hot summers, especially in dry conditions, there is less moisture for condensation in the AC, hence there is less or unnoticeable dripping.
